Cathedral Cove archway update:

Saftey is always the number one priotity on land managed by the Department of Conservation. As soon as it is deemed appropriate the ropes across the Cathedral Cove archway will be taken down (they were put there after a rockfall sometime ago). At this stage the Department of Conservation plan to have the famous archway open by christmas 2011.

Rena Oil spill update:

The ship that is stuck on a reef near Tauranga (Rena) has now had all of its oil removed. This means an environmental disaster has been avoided. Salvage crews are now removing the remaining containers on the striken vessel. We would like to congratulate all those involved in the successful salvage operation. We also plead with others in charge of such vessels to watch where you are going in the future!
